AIM Fire Stop Blocks
AIM High Density Mineral Wool Fire Stop Blocks for apertures in buildings, especially the flutes of metal profiles
Introduction
AIM Fire Stop Blocks are made from high density rock wool and are permanently held in place by compression without the need for adhesive or intumescent mastic. They prevent the passage of flame and smoke through the void being fire stopped.
AIM Fire Stop Blocks are generally incorporated into the building during construction and are used to seal apertures, especially those created by the use of profiled metal decking where it crosses a fire dividing wall. They are also required within metal cladding where a fire break is stipulated and to protect the top flange of steel beams which are not connected to concrete floor slabs by stud connectors.
Acoustic Rating
AIM Fire Stop Blocks will reduce flanking transmission of sound through the void they fill by at least 9dB. When installed above a partition and where an imperforate 12.5mm plasterboard ceiling is installed to abut the partition below on both sides, the room to room sound reduction, on the path of the Fire Stop Block, will be at least 47dB - average sound reduction index.
Installation
AIM Fire Stop Blocks are push fitted into place; they must fit tightly and completely.
Dovetail fire stops are supplied as rectangular blocks, which are pinch fitted into the profile, then pushed into place. Where rough masonry surfaces cause problems a small piece of metal or plastic sheet may be temporarily inserted as a slip plate
